Don’t Waste your life!

Jam_4:13-16, Psa_78:33

I. Today is all we have

a. We can only plan for today Jam_4:13-16 Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. 15 For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that. But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil. b. Sufficient to the day Mat_6:34 Take therefore no thought for the morrow: for the morrow shall take thought for the things of itself. Sufficient unto the day is the evil thereof.c. Today is the day of salvation II Corinthians 6:2 (For he saith, I have heard thee in a time accepted, and in the day of salvation have I succoured thee: behold, now is the accepted time; behold, now is the day of salvation.)

II. Count your days Psa_39:4 LORD, make me to know mine end, and the measure of my days, what it is; that I may know how frail I am.a. Only a few days, we are weak, and we need to see our end

b. Give us wisdom to count our days Psa_90:12 So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom. Psa_89:47 Remember how short my time is: wherefore hast thou made all men in vain? III. Redeem the time Col_4:5 Walk in wisdom toward them that are without, redeeming the time. Eph_5:15-18 See then that ye walk circumspectly, not as fools, but as wise, Redeeming the time, because the days are evil. Wherefore be ye not unwise, but understanding what the will of the Lord is. And be not drunk with wine, wherein is excess; but be filled with the Spirit; a. Yield yourself totally to him Rom_12:1 I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. Romans 6:19 I speak after the manner of men because of the infirmity of your flesh: for as ye have yielded your members servants to uncleanness and to iniquity unto iniquity; even so now yield your members servants to righteousness unto holiness.b. Talk to them about Christ

c. Invest your money Mat_6:21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be alsod. Live like these were your last days

e. Seize and use every minute

Exodus 18:18

Could it be that world evangelism seems to be too large a task because we like Moses try to perform it alone? Wouldn’t the cause of world evangelism be better served if we were to train others to do the work instead of doing it all ourselves? Isn’t this the training or teaching that we find in 2Ti_2:2 and Eph_4:11-12? You must learn discipleship as soon as possible. Begin now to train others because you are not able to perform it thyself alone. Could it be that world evangelism seems to be too large a task because we like Moses try to perform it alone?

I am just now reading in Genesis 14:14 and I see something that I have seen many times but I think that we can apply to what we do as missionaries.  Abram is able to go to war against several worldly kings that have taken his people and goods captive.  He is able to win the war and bring Lot home.  He does all of this with 318 armed, trained, warriors, that were born in his home.  Too often we look out to others and other places to get our army when Abram got his right in his own back yard.

Several thoughts that you could turn into a message:

  1. The enemy has taken God’s people captive at his will
  2. Abram is able to get the victory over several kings and get back all that was lost
  3. He does so with men born, raised and trained in his home–if we will build soul winning churches that will disciple men we should be able to go out and take back what Satan has stolen and bring them back to the house with our own men.

Well it is at least something for a missionary to consider.

Exodus 23:30

It is always little by little that God will do the ministry. If he does too much too quick we could never deal with the success and never keep up with the work. We have to grow with our responsibilities. Just do your job to the best of your ability every day. Try to stretch yourself all that you can and you will see what God can do with you It is always little by little by little that we grow and have success in the ministry or our lives for various reasons.

I Samuel 17:54

David took the head and traveled to Jerusalem. Imagine the scene: David has killed the giant. He has taken his head. He will show it to Saul and the army of the Lord. He then travels with it to show to the nation what God can do with one man that will trust him and run to the battle. God has shown His power. David has proven that God can over other gods. David has proven that the youth can be used when all disdained him. What is on the inside is starting to show on the outside.

That head will win the hearts of the nation and his dearest earthly friend, Jonathan. As you go out to do battle dear missionary prepare to fight the giant. When you defeat him more enemies will come but so will the army that God will give you to win great battle for Him.

Exo_35:21

Heart Stirrings!

1. Caused them to bring an offering Exodus 35:21, 29

2. Caused them to do a work for the Lord Exodus 35:26, 36:2

3. Caused men to sin because they only imagined evil in their hearts. Genesis 8:21

4. Not even to hate in their heart Leviticus 19:17

5.Discouragement happens in the heart Numbers 32:9, De 1:28

6. Not to allow what we have seen God do depart from our heart De 4:9

Numbers 14:40

He is the God of the second chance but not always. The people have heard the message of Moses. They know that they are going to die and that their children are going to waste 40 years of their lives. They repent. Surely God will give them a second chance but He doesn’t. You can sin away your day of grace. You can lose it and even do great harm to your family. Listen, obey, and believe. Be careful to stay close to the Lord and be ready and able to go where He wants when He wants. We do not want to lose His power, His hand, and His blessing on our lives and ministry.

1Ch_15:13

No matter what good we are trying to do for God we must be sure that we do it the way He wants it done. David had good intentions the first time but good intentions aren’t enough. God wants people to follow His instructions. He is God and we are but men. For churches to be what they ought to be we will have to follow His plan. His plan is life on life discipleship. 2Ti_2:2. Mat_28:18-20. Discipleship is the way we carry out the Great Commission. We win people to Him by the power of the Holy Spirit. We teach them to follow Him. We baptize them. We continue to teach them to serve Him obeying Him in what the Scriptures say

1Co_11:16

God I fear that i have been contentious many times in the past. I ask you to forgive me and to help me to learn how to treat others. I have been wrong in the way i dealt with pastors, missionaries, others. God I ask you to forgive me.

How many times do we seem to seek a fight. We seem to like to major on what we do not do instead of what we do.  I determine now to live a life seeking to please God and to go forward for Him instead of trying not to do things that would be wrong.

Jesus interestingly came not to destroy men but to save them Luke 19:10, 9:56

Infighting among personnel is more devilish, desperate, and devastating than anything from the outside.” Clarence W. Jones

I Samuel 4:9

The time has come to be men. In the story the Philistines are challenging each other to act like men. They know that if they do not do something now, if they do not act now, they will soon be servants or slaves to the Israelites. They do quit themselves like men and win the battle. Isn’t it about time that the people of God realize how late the hour is? Isn’t it time that the church begins to act like men. Too long we have sat passively by as the church grows weaker, the crowd gets older, our own young people switch to the other team and the world goes to Hell. The Scriptures says, rise up and act like men or soon Satan and his crowd will be ruling over us. The world will beat the church back to a small dark corner of the globe but if we realize what the hour is we can still make a difference.
